40 years ago, I finally made it to “the big time” in the city of Perth, Western Australia…
…when I landed a job presenting the midnight to dawn slot (the longest shift of all) on Radio 6IX, at the time, one of several “AM” stations, and one of the first “AM Stereo” stations, playing the “Greatest Memories, Latest Hits”.
Having begun my ‘professional career’ as a presenter (“DJ”), working for one year in the town of Esperance on the southwest coast of Western Australia in 1982, after another two stints on “country radio”, somehow, I landed the prestigious “graveyard shift” on 6IX.
Rewind to when I was a kid: I cultivated a love of stickers, from those found in bubblegum cards to the sheets you could buy in packs at the corner shop, to car (bumper) stickers and everything in between.
So it followed that I’d grab a sticker (or several dozen) from every radio and TV station I worked at along the way.
Herewith, for your viewing pleasure, I present 12 years’ worth from the 8 radio stations on which I played the hits, interviewed singers, stars and celebs, ran competitions and quizzes and even read the news between 1979 and 1991 in the land downunder…
