Commercial Voiceover for Fred. Olsen Cruises

17th February 2025

Sadly, like many of us I suspect, I spend more time thinking about exotic trips to far-flung climes than I do actually going on them.

And if you live in the UK, like I do, it’s little wonder that we derive some morsels of pleasure from looking at five-star resorts with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters online. Picturing yourself with a tropical cocktail in hand helps too, I find.

However…

If you can’t be on holiday yourself, being a commercial voiceover for Fred.Olsen Cruises is a fairly decent consolation prize.

What makes a great travel commercial voiceover?

The best thing about this Fred. Olsen Cruises commercial was just how simple it was.

As I’ve just mentioned (not that I’m obsessed with holiday destinations) it would be easy for a travel company to just sell the destination.

Tropical climate. Luxury hotels. Next-level cruises. Tick.

But this one was a little different and focused on something more universal – moments.

Little moments that make you smile.
Spectacular moments that make your jaw drop.
Moments that come and go…

Well – you can listen to the rest yourself when you watch the video!

But you get the picture.

And even though this wasn’t the longest or the wordiest commercial I’ve ever voiced, the message is one I always remember.

Lovely stuff.

A commercial voiceover career built on memorable moments

It struck me afterwards that ‘moments’ probably sums up life as a commercial voiceover artist rather well.

Maybe it’s why I liked this one so much.

One day I’m voicing breakfast cereal. Kelloggs anyone?

The next it’s financial services. Chocolate bars. Luxury hotels.

And does anyone remember a little advert offering to ‘Bazuka that verruca’?

The booking for any given day could be for a corporate film. An e-learning course. A radio campaign. A television commercial for a cruise line.

After over thirty years in the voiceover industry, I’ve built up quite the collection of little moments.

And it’s one of the things I’ve always loved the most – no two days behind the microphone are ever quite the same.

How the right voice brings a travel commercial to life

Whether it’s a travel commercial or a television advert for a household brand, the job is never simply to read the words on the page.

It’s about understanding what the audience should feel.

For this commercial, that meant warmth. Speaking to that thing that binds us all together… human experience and connection.

A voice that gently invited you not only to come aboard, but to make new memories.

Behind the microphone for Fred. Olsen Cruises

After more than four decades behind the microphone, I’ve been fortunate enough to work on thousands of voiceover projects.

Each one has its own story.

This Fred. Olsen Cruises commercial is another of those memorable moments I’ll happily add to the collection.

I hope you enjoy watching it.
